Dr Rishad Shafik is currently an Associate Professor of Electronic Systems at Newcastle University and a Senior Member of IEEE and IET. He is an internationally recognized expert of hardware/software co-design of electronic systems. He currently leads a team of researchers working on Autonomous Electronic Systems. He has edited a book, contributed to 6 other books and published 100+ top-tier articles, including 3 best paper award nominations. He leads a number of projects funded by Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Nokia Bell Labs Cambridge, Royal Society (UK), Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) and EPSRC (the UK government funding council). Previously, he has been involved in several projects, including a flagship European project on implantable electronics and EPSRC-funded £5.6m PRiME programme on many-core embedded systems. He participates/leads a number of national and international technical programme committees; he was the General Chair of DFT’17; currently a TPC Member of DATE (’18-to date), a Steering member of EPSRC eFutures, currently Chairing the UK Circuits and Systems symposium (UKCAS) in Dec’20. Recently, he guest edited a special theme sssue in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Harmonising Energy-Autonomous Computing and Computational Intelligence.
